I was invited to visit Bonnie’s Grill in Park Slope, Brooklyn, which I did, the week of December 26th.

Untitled We arrived in the afternoon for lunch on Wednesday. Choosing to seat ourselves on the bar, we started with a beer and a glass of wine. To eat, we got the vegetarian burger, the mushroom sandwich and the vegetarian burger crumble salad. As sides to the burger, we went with the vegetarian chili cheese fries and a spicy coleslaw. What I loved about the vegetarian burger was that distinct ‘smokey’ smell to it. I for a moment, thought, they used charcoal for the grilling, but Chef Ramone confirmed it wasn’t charcoal, some spice rub that he used. The patty itself, I couldn’t particularly identify the vegetables as such. It seemed to be plenty of rice in it, nothing else was distinguishable. It was served on a whole wheat roll.

The ‘spicy’ coleslaw on the side wasn’t spicy at all. Nor was it coleslaw’y’, if I may. And it wasn’t as finely shredded as I’d like a coleslaw to be.

The portobello sandwich’s highlight was that the portobello was marinated in some tangy solution and it had a nice taste to it, other than being a plain jane slice of it, grilled. Served again, on a whole wheat roll. The vegetarian cheese chili fries as a side to it were good. I knew I was going to order them the moment I saw it on the menu online 🙂

The vegetarian burger crumble salad was quite a mix, from the vegetable patty to greens to sundried tomatoes to sauteed jalapenos to cheese and a Thai peanut dressing. I have to say I ordered this for the peanut dressing and was intrigued on seeing that as an option at a burger place. But the peanut dressing wasn’t as powerpacked as I would’ve liked it to be. Again, it’s not a Thai place, so wrong expectation? Or maybe they got to have it right if they have it on the menu?
